Our synagogue truly became a ‘beit midrash’ last Shabbat as Rabbi Borts led our study session entitled; “Mamas and Papas: Who makes me a Jew?” The excellent turn out of members and friends found it such a fascinating topic that the session continued long after the appointed hour and we were joined by those who had come solely for the service. Several of them said how much they regretted not having been in at the start as the subject proved to be of great interest to them! Indeed there was a general clamour from the congregation for more learning including help with Hebrew reading as well as provision for children’s education. Our chair, Bess said that this fortunately was one of the important topics down for discussion at the forthcoming Council Meeting. Thank you to the magnificent DHC membership for your constant support and active participation and a great big thank you to our rabbi for all her hard work finding the many sources from torah, mishnah, Rashi and progressive Judaism that sparked such a marvellous session. Thank you too to all who contributed to the Kiddush. We now bench (in short form) as our kiddush has really turned into a community (very) convivial lunch!
