Last Saturday, 25th May 2013, I had the very great pleasure of seeing my brother Leon Tax honoured by the Blackpool Reform Jewish congregation.
The Shul was full to the brim with members, friends, family and visitors who had all come to see a man whose commitment to the community was second to none.
As a child Leon joined the Scout Movement and the Commissioner and old friends were there to congratulate him. They came in uniform to honour this man who was awarded the medal of merit some years ago.The scouting tradition is still very active within the family with his children and grandchildren following in his footsteps.
Leon has been involved with the Masonic Community for many years. He has moved through the ranks and been involved in several lodges, reaching the highest positions. He was honoured by the Masons present, for over 40 years of work and was presented with a certificate.
The BRJC held a beautiful service and then presented Leon with his certificate and declaring him Honorary Life President.
The most amazing thing then happened. Leon was given another certificate from the Movement for ReformJudaismconferring him with the title HECHAVER. This is equivalent to an Honorary Rabbinical degree.
Leon responded, thanking everyone and presenting trees to both the Scout and the Masonic Movement.
A delightful Kiddush was provided by the Shul
Leon remains very ill and our thoughts and prayers are with him and the whole family, (written by Bess Robertson, Vice Chair DHC and Leon’s sister.)
