Last Sunday afternoon was the occasion of the now annual DHC Purim social event. This was very well attended with guests of all ages including an overseas visitor from Germany who brought along the Darlington friends he was staying with.
The fun started when we split into teams to tackle expert quizzer Martin Goldberg’s challenging Purim questions. It was very evident that many of the contestants had been listening hard at Lifelong Learning and study sessions plus some who may have even been swotting up the night before! The result was a very close contest with the ‘Nice Team’ winning by a single point.
This was followed by an improvised acting of the Purim story with full audience participation. All the young people present eagerly volunteered for roles and acted with great enthusiasm and considerable skill with the addition of Martin Goldberg who was ‘volunteered’ to be Haman! The audience made plenty of appropriate noise. There followed a DHC ‘banquet’ in the form of an excellent afternoon tea. Thanks to Estelle for organising a real fun afternoon and to all who came and supported the event including a late arriving Geordie fisherman (Martin Craster, heavily disguised!)
